Historical
Lighthouse Tour
THE
POINT SUR LIGHTHOUSE offers guided tours every Saturday
and Sunday. This State Historic Landmark is a fascinating place
to visit and imagine what life must have been like for the sturdy
lighthouse keepers who operated the station from 1889 to 1937.
Point Sur's protruding volcanic headlands caused numerous tragic
shipwrecks before the lighthouse was built.
The Point
Sur Light station is 19 miles south of Carmel. Each tour takes
2-3 hours, and does require a steep half-mile hike each way, with
a 300-foot elevation gain. Tours leave at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm
on Saturdays and at 10:00 am on Sundays. They request you arrive
a half-hour before your tour departure. Small children not recommended.
Fee is $5 for adults, $3 age 13-17 and $2 for age 5-12. 831-625-4419,
