Events
The big events
in Big Sur happen mostly on an informal basis: a lurid sunset,
whales breaching offshore, or newlyweds vowing to return to 'their'
beach.
But several
annual community events do take place throughout the year that
are well worth planning around. Please call for exact dates.
BIG
SUR INTERNATIONAL MARATHON Drawing top runners from around
the world, this event was voted 'Best Marathon in North America'
by besotted participants. In addition to the full and half marathons,
a relay run, 21 mile Power Walk, 5K and 10K events are offered.
Highway One closes to traffic for 5 1/2 hours. Lucky runners are
entertained by a grand piano at Bixby Bridge, Taiko drummers at
Hurricane Point, belly dancers and other diversions along the
route. Last Sunday in April. 831-625-6226, www.bsim.org
BIG
SUR JAZZFEST Three days of jazz music at venues around
Big Sur presented by the Big Sur Arts Initiative. The highlight
